CHILD RIGHTS CENTRE FOUNDER AND MEMBER OF THE ASSEMBLY AT THE CONFERENCE IN SEUL

On 20 November 2019 Prof. Nevena Vuckovic Sahovic, one of the founders and member of the Child Rights Centre Assembly participated at the conference in South Korea. The conference was held in Seul was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Some of the key topics of the conference were: child rights, active participation of children in society, discrimination, but also poverty and its consequences.

At this event Prof. Vuckovic Sahovic  spoke about the importance of the Convention on the Rights of the Child that was ratified by 196 countries, the importance of explicit prohibition of corporal punishment of children in all settings, and the fact that social awareness of reporting sexual violence in Serbia started 20 years ago.

As the former member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, in assessing the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the professor noted that thirty years is a very short period compared to history marked by oppression and conflict. “The realization of the rights of the child cannot be achieved effortlessly”, she emphasized and added: “the more we promote human rights, the more we grow into members of society who respect the rights of others.”
