The Child Rights Centre (CRC), in cooperation with Save the Children International (SCI), is conducting theproject “Child Rights in Policy and Practice”. The project is implemented with the support of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – Sida.
This regional project will be implemented from 2017 to 2021. Beside the Child Rights Centre from Serbia, the partners on the project are the Children’s Rights Information Center, Moldova and Women’s Consortium Ukraine, Ukraine.
This project aims to improve child protection system, as well as the structures and mechanisms for monitoring and implementing the rights of the child, including the participation of children in these processes.
Through the project “Child Rights in Policy and Practice”, in the forthcoming period the CRC will advocate and initiate activities to indicate the following necessities:
- Adopting the state policy towards children as the National Action Plan ceased to apply in 2015;
- Strengthening the role of the Council for Child Rights of the Government of the Republic of Serbia;
- Establishment of the budget with a clearly visible allocations intended for children;
- Adoption of the Law on the Protector of the Rights of the Child;
- The prohibition of corporal punishment in all settings including the family;
- Ratification of the Optional Protocol on a Communications Procedure to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
In partnership with members of the Coalition for Monitoring of Child Rights in the Republic of Serbia, the Centre will continuously work on monitoring the rights of the child and report about their implementation to: UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Human Rights Council, European Commission and other institutions.
Within this project the CRC will also work on the prevention and protection of children from violence, through the establishment of a legal framework that will define an explicit prohibition of corporal punishment of children in all environments, and raising awareness of non-violent methods of children upbringing.
One of the important segments of the project is to increase the participation of children and young people in decision-making at the national and local levels. Therefore, together with the Club DX – Children’s Information Cultural Service and Club for Healthy Changes, the CRC will continuously work on providing information to children and young people about their rights and ways in which they can enjoy them.
