On 26th February 2015, at the institution for children care “Drinka Pavlovic”, five members of the Club for Healthy Changes performed a short original play with the theme of abuse and neglect of children and youth with developmental disabilities.
As an introduction to the play youth form the Club informed children and educators from the home about the project “Empowering children and young people with disabilities to improve responses to child abuse and neglect” and about the ways in which they themselves can react in situations when they become victims of abuse and neglect.
Examining the needs of young people with disabilities representatives of the Club realised that they often do not recognise violence as such and that they tolerate various forms of violence because they lack practical knowledge about reactions to the abuse and neglect. Through this play Club members have shared their knowledge and experiences gained during the course of the Project. The event was organised in the form of interactive performance where the audience was invited to present a direct or indirect experiences on the topic of child abuse and neglect, as well as the ways in which we can react in certain situations. At the end of the show the promotional materials were distributed to the audience.
