Introducing the “Report on the state of child rights in the Republic of Serbia from the perspective of children and youth” and Recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council regarding the second process of the Universal Periodic Review of human rights in Serbia to their peers.
In 2013 the DX will be directing its activities toward the introduction of peers with a “Report on the state of child rights in the Republic of Serbia from the perspective of children and youth,” as well as the Recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council regarding the second process of the Universal Periodic Review of human rights in Serbia. Support to these activities is provided by the Save the Children International.
The members of DX, by the end of May, created the workshop plan to introduce children and youth with this Report and Recommendations, and they also prepared a PowerPoint presentation for use in the workshop. The first in a planned series of workshops was held on 30 May in the Club for healthy change, which brings together children with disabilities who are placed in institutional care in Belgrade. The presentation is adjusted to this group and was led by a member of DX, with the support coordinator. Present children and young people responded very positively and actively involved themselves in the discussion of the results.
Because many of these topics were close to their everyday experiences, particularly in relation to peer violence and sexual harassment, the presentation was able to activate some members of the group who at these meetings rarely speak independently. This created a lively discussion after which the present members of the group expressed a desire that at the next meeting of the group they continue talking about the issues rose in this report.
