“A place for me – children in foster care in Serbia”

On Friday 27 December 2013 in the Media Center in Belgrade, the Child Rights Centre organised a press conference entitled “A place for me – children in foster care in Serbia.”

At the conference, representatives of the Child Rights Centre and associates presented the results of the research “A place for me – children in foster care in Serbia” implemented by the Child Rights Centre in cooperation with the National Institute of Social Welfare, with support from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social policy during the period July – December 2013 within the project with the same name. The situation of children with functioning problems in the foster placement – current situation and challenges faced by professionals, foster parents, and by children in foster care were investigated.

Special attention is given to the possibility of improving foster care from the point of application of a specific criminal sanction intended for juvenile offenders – enhanced supervision in another family. The results were used as a basis for the formulation of specific recommendations to improve the position of a child with the functioning problems in the foster placement and further development of foster care in Serbia.
