“Children’s Rights Behind Bars”. Human rights of children Deprived of liberty: Improving Monitoring Mechanisms

The Child Rights Centre, within the project “Children’s Rights Behind Bars” Human rights of children Deprived of liberty: Improving Monitoring Mechanisms”, coordinated by the Defence for Children International (DCI) – Belgium and funded by the Criminal Justice Program of the European Commission, implemented a national survey in Serbia about the mechanisms of control and monitoring and complaints procedures that exist in institutions where children are deprived of their liberty. The Field research is conducted with the support of International Management Group – IMG that recognised the importance of researching monitoring mechanisms and complaints procedures in institutions for enforcement of criminal sanctions for further improvement of the juvenile justice system.

The research was conducted in juvenile Correctional Facility in Krusevac, the Correctional centre for juveniles in Valjevo and the Special Prison Hospital in Belgrade.

The results of research and national reports and recommendations on improving and strengthening the mechanisms for controlling and monitoring and complaints procedures in institutions where children are deprived of their liberty in the 14 countries participating in this project (Austria, Belgium, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Britain and Serbia) have been published on the project official website.
