Club for Healthy Changes on the World Day Against Child Abuse

10.10.2017.

In 2014 and 2015 the Child Rights Centre is implementing a project “Empowering children/young people with disabilities to improve responses to Child Abuse and Neglect”. This project is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) programme, and implemented by the international children’s charity Lumos in partnership with the Child Rights Centre. Through this project, children and youth with disabilities are empowered to recognise different forms of abuse and neglect of children and to protect themselves, and are directly involved in promotional and educational activities aimed at their peers and professionals.

Children, young people and experts from the Club for healthy changes will mark the 19th of November – World Day Against Child Abuse, by thematic action that will be organised on that day at noon in the School of Elementary and Secondary Education Vožd. As part of this action the students of this school will be introduced to the problem of abuse and neglect, as well as with the possible ways in which they can protect themselves. There will also be presented the activities of the Club for healthy changes. Students will be handed out the peer promotional material which was developed as part of the activities of the Club, and the action will involve the creation of child poster dedicated to this date.

The Club for healthy changes is aimed at children and young people with disabilities, who are on institutional care, using the service of supported housing or living in foster families, as well as at other young people who have developmental disabilities and who need additional support and assistance in learning and everyday life. The club was formed in 2012 within the project “Turning Words into Action”, which is implemented in Serbia by the Lumos Foundation in cooperation with the Child Rights Centre. The Child Rights Centre established the Club for healthy changes also with the support of the Centre for Social Preventive Activities GRiG. During 2014/15 the Club works within the project “Empowering children/young people with disabilities to improve responses to Child Abuse and Neglect”.
