The First session of the new convocation of the Republic of Serbia Governement’s Council for Child Rights held

The First session of the new convocation of the Republic of Serbia Governement’s Council for Child Rights was held on 13 November 2014. After getting acquainted with the new composition of the Council and establishing plans for the next period, the session discussed the activities of the Council in the future, with particular emphasis on solving problems of street children and measures to reduce the number of children living and working on the streets.

President of the Child Rights Centre Ivana Stevanovic, PhD attended the meeting as a member of the Council.

The Council agreed to launch an initiative for the adoption of the Law on the Ombudsman for the rights of the child.

Council for Child Rights was established in May 2002 and is one of the most important national mechanisms for the implementation of child rights.

The Council’s duties are to submit initiatives to the Government, proposals, opinions and analysis relating to the exercise of the rights of the child in the Republic of Serbia, to monitor the implementation of regulations in the field of realisation of child rights and launch initiatives for their changes, as well as to monitor the implementation of the National Plan of Action for Children, collect data from the relevant ministries, organisations and institutions on its implementation and monitor the compliance of other strategic documents with this plan.
